Krugerrands first started in 1967 and the first Krugerrands were available at R27 and forty years later are worth in the region of R5000. The Krugerrands have been the worlds most successful ever gold coin produced and millions have been minted. The Krugerrand coins were named after the president of Transvaal, Paul Kruger.
