08 Nov 07 - A GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING ... AND GIVING
It’s that time of the year when gifts are top-of-mind among most South Africans ...

A prime selection challenge is to find a gift that distinguishes itself from all others clamouring for the buyer’s attention; one that assures the receiver thereof that he or she has been the recipient of much caring consideration.

If it was suggested to you that you opt for a gift that keeps on giving, your interest would surely be piqued, given especially that the gift’s penchant for continuously giving can be empirically demonstrated.

Alan Demby, executive chairman of the South African Gold Coin Exchange, explains: “If you’d gifted a Krugerrand 40 years ago, you would have paid R27 for something that is today worth R5 000. It’s a gift that has given generously and unceasingly for a substantial four decades – and it is highly likely to repeat that performance in the next four.”

He suggests that few, if any, traditional gifts are able to continue delivering to the recipient in this way. And few are able to offer the following additional advantages:

• The Krugerrand can be sold 24/7/365 anywhere in the world;
• It’s the world’s most successful ever gold coin;
• It is the most convenient and effective store of value;
• Its price can be determined at any time of the day or night; and
• It’s more than as good as gold – it is gold, and gold has entered a powerful bull market.

 Demby says that the “mercenary” label that could be attached to the Krugerrand in a gift context is more than eclipsed by its aesthetics.

“Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder but I have yet to meet a sceptic unable to appreciate the visual appeal of the Krugerrand. Tastefully enclosed in a transparent container, the coin is guaranteed to please the heart of the most critical of recipients. It solves the problem of what to buy for the person who has everything.”

 Demby emphasises that the Krugerrand is not the only gold coin with the capacity to keep on giving.
“Indeed, other gold coins in our portfolio add an extra giving dimension. Thus, because a percentage of the sale price of the Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Prize coin goes to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, such a gift has an additional positive spin-off.

“And the same applies to our Scoin gold coins, sold through our Scoin retail outlets across the country, the sales of which benefit CHOC – Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa.

“The gift of a gold coin is one that keeps on giving, and giving, and giving. It’s the clear solution to a dilemma that raises its head every year at this time of the year.”
