The Protea gold coins were introduced by the South African Mint in 1986 to commemorate South Africa’s historical events. This South African gold coin is popular amongst coin collectors as it depicts the national flower of South Africa, the protea.
Protea coins come in two different sizes: 1oz and 1/10oz. Their creation was also largely due to the overwhelming success that was experienced by the minting of the first Krugerrand, this fast became a popular manner in which to buy gold as an investment and kick-started the collector’s coin industry.
Coin collectors worldwide are fanatical about this SA coin as it depicts the Protea, the national flower of South Africa. Since 1986, the Protea coin has portrayed a number of themes on its reverse, which change annually, this has lent further appeal to this range of South African coins for sale in the international community.
